Our Mission

Joint Forces Dance Company’s mission is to encourage the evolution of contemporary dance and provide ways for people to connect through dance. This mission is accomplished through the work of DanceAbility International, contact improvisation workshops and events, and performances.

The work of JFDC creates inclusive communities through dance.

“I believe that DanceAbility® goes beyond movement exploration and is, for many people their first opportunity to define themselves in their own terms and see that this dance form, like their lives, has many options and possibilities.”

~Susan Sygall,

Executive Director,

Mobility International U.S.A.

About: Contact improvisation is a dance form where points of physical contact provide the focal point for movement improvisation and exploration, often practiced in pairs but possible in small groups as well. Guided exercises and explorations will help class participants develop or improve skills of deep listening, falling, rolling, counterbalance, lifting using minimal effort, how to make ourselves light when being lifted, comfort with solo, duet, trio, and group movement, tuning into the speed and potential of our reflexes, how to both avoid causing boundary violations and practice re-directing or rejecting dances, and responsiveness to our partners and surroundings. This class is suited for beginners, intermediate, and advanced dancers, “recreational” and “serious” dancers alike.
